Dr. Rosukon Poompanvong, the founder of Health Farm in Thailand, was born in 1956 and received her M.A. from Kasetsart University Bangkhen, Bangkok in 1983. Dr. Rosukon was also the first Asian to receive Ph.D. degree in alternative medicine.
Because of a blood disease she has lived with since birth, Dr. Rosukon has strong commitment to help other people who also suffer from health problem. She developed a technology to tap the full potential of soil organisms by using fermented organic waste for crop fertilization and pest protection, also effective as a feed supplement for pigs and chickens. In the 90s, she started setting up Health Farm in various provinces in Thailand as a centre for training framers in organic farming methods in order to heal health problem through health food and diet. Due to her contributions, she received the award for outstanding achievements in organic farming from FAO on 2003 World Food Day.
To recognize her enormous contributions and her love for the people, the earth and the life itself, Dr. Rosukon has won the medal of “The 11th Fervent Global Love of Lives, 2008” among 1,868 candidates from Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation.
In consideration of Dr. Rosukon’s health condition, Chou Ta-kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation has decided to hold the promulgation ceremony for Dr. Rosukon here in Bangkok, instead of having it in Taipei in Sept. 2008 with the rest awardees from other eleven countries.
The Foundation also takes this chance to conduct a series of charity programs in Bangkok during Jan. 18-26. (For more information, please contact representatives from the Foundation)
The team from Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation, led by the founder, Mr. Chin-Huar Chou, wishes to share its experiences in setting and running a non-profit welfare organization with groups in Thailand and other S.E. Asian countries. The key message that the Foundation has been conveying for years is to love one’s own life, respect others’ lives and protect the earth’s life.
