Illuminating the life of arts with the power of sun
      Chen Yi-Ming, a student of grade two, ST George’s Industrial Vocational School, Taipei, who is suffered from mental retardation and infantile autism. Under the thoughtful care of his parents, he scored extraordinary achievements in music, painting, Weiqi and sports, especially for claborate-style painting, koto and flute playing. He liked gazing at sun, so he was often called as “the son of sun”. 

      He presented hit talent in terms of painting, Weiqi and music when he met a kind-hearted teacher in Ying Chiao Junior High School. His picture “Dining Scene” was awarded the mayor award of Taipei. And, he could play koto and flute without watching the music book, and also created unique “creative paintings” that were collected by foreign clients. 

      Chen Yi-Ming was reputed as an “autistic warrior”, since he overcame the difficulties and illuminated the life of arts with dynamic music and arts. His life story was also highly praised and recognized by “2007 Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal Review Committee” of Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation. On the morning of April 10, 2007, Chen Yi-Ming and other candidates were awarded 10th Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal of Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation, meanwhile a press conference was held at arts corridor of CKS Memorial Hall Administration Office, on the sideline of “painting the true love--an exhibition of an earthworm warrior--Chiu Jun-Wei VS an autistic warrior--Chen Yi-Ming” as well as “life is love--list of winners of 2007 10th Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal”.? 

      Chen Yi-Ming, male, 17 years old, born in Taipei on February 19, 1990, a student of grade two, ST George’s Industrial Vocational School--a privately-run school in Taipei. When he was only 3 years old, he was diagnosed of mental retardation and infantile autism, etc. However, his parents didn’t give up and tried to search for medical treatment everywhere. 

      Everything comes to him who waits. Yi-Ming was later enrolled to Taipei Ying Chiao Junior High School, where his special talents in painting, music and Weiqi, especially his claborate-style and watercolor paintings, were presented under the guidance of headmaster Xu Xigogong and other teachers. Moreover, he could play hundreds of koto masterpieces. Yi-Ming once made an intermittent self-introduction: “I like creative paintings, sports, Weiqi and koto, and I also like to help the others though I’m not very smart. As the teachers said: I’m friendly and also the best one……”; of course, Yi-Ming’s parents, teachers, classmates and relatives’ love for him is also unlimited in his struggle against the difficulties.
