Living to create a bright future
Yang Yuan-Ning, a third-year student of Department of Political Economy, National Sun Yat-Sen University. He and his brother Yang Bo-Yu, a student of Kaohsiung Medical University, were diagnosed of Spinal Muscular Atrophy- one of the most serious diseases. What’s worthy to note is that, their parents, Yang Deng-Fa and Wang De-Mei, took care of these two children, made them grow up just like the healthy children. Yuan-Ning studied well from her childhood. She was enrolled to National Sun Yat-Sen University at a high mark. Moreover, she managed to live independently and served as a volunteer of the Counseling Center. She has set a good example for the disabled people.
From her childhood, Yuan-Ning was a good student and often won different kinds of prizes. Although she had suffered such a serious disease, she never gave up, and even helped a lot of people like her. She was really an angel against adversity. Yang Yuan-Ning’s story was highly recognized by “2007 Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal Review Committee” of Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation. So, Yuan-Ning was invited to join the Tenth Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal ceremony From May, 22nd to May 30th, 2007 and to take part in a series of public welfare activities in Taiwan, Jinmen.
In view of Yuan-Ning’s physical disability, she was awarded by Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation, and invited to share her experience with the winners of Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal.
Yang Yuan-Ning, female, 23 years old, born on September 21, 1984 in Kaohsiung City, was a third-year student of the National Sun Yat-Sen University. She was suffered from congenital muscular atrophy, but she was a lucky girl, since her parents, friends and relatives often encouraged her, “Never say no if you do not have a taste of it!” She could play table tennis, badminton and basketball on the wheelchair. Most importantly, her parents and teachers encourage her and her brother to grow up like healthy children, and learn how to solve the problems they faced in life.
Encompassed with love, she managed to live independently and helped the other disabled people. By adhering to her mother’s motto: “promise of love--live happily”, she never cared about her illness and often said, “Whether one lives happily depends on whether one is willing to take steps.”
