From tears to smiles
Sun, Yu-Yin is now in the third grade of high school in Taichung special education school. With the careful protection and company of her father Sun, Ming-Shan and mother Jiang, Zhen-Yun after experiencing all the panic, tears and frequent and long staying at early treatment institutions and hospitals, she finally learned to walk and speak simple words at the age of 2.
Sun, Yu-Yin's parents are particularly grateful for Wang, Chiao-Chi, the founder of the private Crown Kindergarten in Dadu District, Taichung City, for she was the one that took the initiative to care for and assist their daughter, so that Sun, Yu-Yin could took her first step in happy learning. In the exhausted, helpless and painful six-year care in primary school, Sun, Yu-Yin won the Taiwanese karaoke Award for the first time and found her parents a glimmer of hope.
Saying goodbye to the shadow of discrimination in integrated education of other elementary schools, Sun, Yu-Yin attended Daodao junior high school resource class and Taichung special education school. Sun, Yu-Yin, who was especially considerate, became a small helper for all teachers and took the initiative to take care of other more vulnerable students. She won the model student and graduate mayor award of Dadao junior high school. Then she also won a number of talent awards in painting, diversified performance and music charity performance, and became a model student of Taichung special education school.
In particular, after receiving the extracurricular music education of Mr. Lin, Chi-Tung, the savior of her that integrated music into the life education, she became the core musician of the public welfare charity performance of DS Orchestra, and successively obtained 6 street artist licenses in Hualien County, Miaoli County, Hsinchu County, Nantou County, Jiayi County and Changhua County, becoming a self-reliant and entertaining person.
On December 25, 2021, Sun, Yu-Yin finally sang the Christmas Eve hymn with Zan, Ya-Wen, her idol since childhood, winning the applause of more than 10000 people and moved all walks of life.
 
Sun, Yu-Yin always thanks her parents for their loving care, teachers at all levels and all sectors of society for their warm hands, Mr. Lin, Qi-Tong, Lian, Guan-Jie and DS's big instrument Orchestra for their personal directions, and Zan, Ya-Wen's encouragement. They are like a family
When seeing the examination report that her daughter had abnormal chromosome and was determined to be a "Down syndrome child", Sun, Yu-Yin's parents had no idea at all. Until the medical staff told bluntly, "it's Mongolian dementia!", and they just collapsed, crying helplessly on the spot.
Some people say that people with DS are from one family, because they look alike: flat face, small eyes, inclined eyelids, wide distance between eyes, collapsed nose, large tongue with a little convex, small ears, the ear shell is easy to fold down and are located below the eyelid line, short limbs, broken palms, and little fingers with only two knuckles.
In addition to these common features of appearance, patients with DS have low muscle tension and poor joint stability, which affect the development of movement.  They also have varying degrees of lack of intelligence, as well as some complications, such as heart disease, poor resistance and so on.
How many people with DS are there in Taiwan? According to the big data of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, there are more than 30000 DS patients in Taiwan.
In 2011, the United Nations designated March 21 as "World Down Syndrome Day", so that all walks of life around the world can take a positive view of this disease. It has been verified to be caused by the mutation of the 21st pair of chromosomes in the human body. There are still many DS patients around the world who have made extraordinary achievements, proving that our natural talents must be useful.
Early identification and early treatment
Jiang, Zhen-Yun, Sun, Yu-Yin's mother, said: the average IQ of ordinary children is 100. The average IQ of DS patients such as Sun, Yu-Yin is between 45 and 57, which belongs to moderate mental retardation. DS patients has no logical thinking ability, but has the ability of imitation and memory. To educate DS children, you need to repeat one thing many times and be patient, and they will learn.
Taking hand washing as an example, it is divided into four steps: using soap, rubbing hands, flushing and turning off the tap. After memorizing these steps for a long time, they will do it meticulously and never leave out any of these steps.
In other words, of all children with intellectual disabilities, children with DS are the most teachable. They can learn perceptual movement, have basic cognition, do self-care and understand other knowledge through "training".
Therefore, early identification and early treatment and education are very important for DS patients.
It may be too arbitrary for people to say that "the first three years determines a whole life", but the physical rehabilitation, the treatment and education methods of stimulating children's reflection and balance by games before the age of three, are indeed of great help to DS patients. Some DS children are still unable to walk steadily at the age of five or six. Sun, Yu-Yin, who received early treatment and education, can start walking at the age of more than two.
A study in the United States pointed out that DS patients, who received early treatment, had an average IQ of about 17 points higher than those who did not receive treatment at the age of 9 to 10. That is, to improve their situation closest to mild mental retardation, "you can take care of yourself in daily life, and some people can even learn to write a screenplay!"
 
Angel parents make angel DS children
We divide "environment" into social environment and family environment. However, despite the social environment or family environment, parents can teach DS patients from his childhood - how to establish interpersonal relationships, how to communicate with others and how to improve social skills.
At the beginning, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents served as the "bridge" for her, teaching her how to interact with others and guiding people around on how to interact with Sun, Yu-Yin. Gradually, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents help Sun, Yu-Yin get along with others naturally. At this time, they withdrew from the role of "bridge".
In terms of social environment, how parents treat DS children at home will affect the attitude and response of other children, neighbors and friends to the DS children.
In Sun, Yu-Yin's case, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents often take her out for a hike, and teach Sun, Yu-Yin to take the initiative to greet her neighbors and friends. When Sun, Yu-Yin's parents introduce her to everyone with a normal heart, they hold the same attitude as introducing a common child. At the same time, they also teach Sun, Yu-Yin to greet others. This is the basic mode of natural interaction with the social environment.
When DS children gradually grow up and establish a closer relationship with the external social environment, as their parents, they may wish to increase the opportunities for more people from all walks of life to talk and interact with DS children.
In terms of family environment, from Sun, Yu-Yin's successful case, we found that the family layout, appliances and the functions of various items provided, such as musical instruments, stationery and sports equipment, were properly arranged; Parents' habits, life interaction, interests and leisure are also very warm and natural.

Sun, Ming-Shan and Jiang, Zhen-Yun, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents, said that they were not good at expressing themselves, but they were content with their life, always know their place and lived a normal life. They never thought that God would send Sun, Yu-Yin to them in this way. They were panic stricken in the face of Sun, Yu-Yin's physical situation, they were afraid that they could not take good care of her considering her low muscle tension and open pulmonary artery catheter, and always be afraid that Sun, Yu-Yin's life will be threatened even in case of catching a cold.

Then Sun, Yu-Yin's parents actively arranged early treatment courses for her, accompanied her to class, and help her to slowly learn to sit, climb, stand, walk and run. Although she was much slower than normal children, it was still very touching to see Sun, Yu-Yin grow up.
Later, with the development of speech ability, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents were also use the most simple method by holding Sun, Yu-Yin in their arms, talking to her all the time: tell her everything they saw or sing children's songs to her all the time.
What surprised them was that Sun, Yu-Yin gradually responded to what they said and children's songs. More importantly, when arranged oral classes for her later, they found that the effect was good. Sun, Yu-Yin was optimistic and kind-hearted by nature and loved by every family member. Although she was a DS child with mental deficiency, she was polite, naive and warm-hearted, and would take the initiative to care for the people around her. For example, when her parents take her to any activity and then return home, she will say, "I'm very happy today. Thank you for taking me to the activity. I really appreciate that!"
Sun, Yu-Yin is an angel who always expresses her thanks. Every time she sees people, she always greets people with a big smile. Now she is growing into a 100% perfect PR of the Sun family, not being afraid of strangers and is so lively!
Sun, Yu-Yin's brother Sun, Rui-Hong is a very sensible and independent boy. He is careful, rigorous and clever in his school because he understand that the parents are already occupied by his sister. He never bothered his parents and chose the Institute of technology of National Defense University to reduce their burden, which makes them feel gratified. The brother and sister have not become less developed because of their parents' lack of ability. What a blessing from the God!

Sun Yuyin was taken care of by many teachers and classmates in her school.  Sun Yuyin's mother still remembered her childhood when she was still worried about which school Sun, Yu-Yin should go to. At that time, Wang, Jiao-Qi, the founder of the private Crown Kindergarten in Taichung Dadu District, where Sun, Yu-Yin's brother studied, took the initiative to reach them and said to them, "send her here! We will help you. " They have always kept this in mind with great thanks!
Sun, Yu-Yin has always been an compliant DS child. Although the primary school is integrated in the general community primary school, there will be a gap when she attends classes with normal students. Although Sun, Yu-Yin learns slower than others, her attitude has always been very good. She spends more time than others to complete her homework and tasks seriously, so she has established the ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the primary school stage.
Sun Yuyin's parents have just begun to communicate with the school teachers at the time; In addition, when persuading the teachers and parents accepted Sun, Yu-Yin, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents were stressed, exhausted, helpless and painful, but fortunately, they chose to stay in the community primary school instead of becoming enemies with the teachers. They were always patient even when they were in troubles and didn't embarrass the teachers.
They teach their children well by themselves and try not to bother the teacher. On holidays, they take her to walk to train her physical strength. When her physical strength gets better, they challenge mountaineering. It is not easy when reaching the top, but it also brings them a rare sense of achievement. They overcome difficulties and setbacks, and finally successfully completed the integrated education of urban primary schools.
In junior high school and senior high school, they helped Sun, Yu-Yin choose a school with special education system. Sun, Yu-Yin went to school happily like a fish in water. At school, she took the initiative to help teachers, take care of other more vulnerable students, and help teachers fill in classroom logs and timetables. All the junior high school and senior high school years she has been teachers' little helpers. Therefore, Sun, Yu-Yin was selected as a model student in the class. when graduating from junior high school, she also won the mayor's Award for her excellent performance in school!
 
Now, Sun, Yu-Yin is in the third grade of high school. Seeing her growth along the way, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents almost forget the tears they shed when she was a baby.
 
Sing with the charity singer Zan, Ya-Wen to realize her dream
Sun, Yu-Yin's best friend since childhood is TV, especially the singing programs on TV. Therefore, she knows a lot of singers. Among them, she most admires Zan, Ya-Wen, the charity singer.
Zan, Ya-Wen, the Taiwan singer of charity songs, has many well-known songs that Sun, Yu-Yin can sing along with. For example, it will be a good year, win you, mother's hand, homesick, mood of singing, affectionate coast, life road, etc.
Because she loves singing, she has a dream that one day she could perform with Zhan Yawen, the idol of her for a long time! On December 25, 2021, Sun, Yu-Yin's dream came true. It's really lucky!
Sun, Yu-Yin's interest in singing Taiwanese songs made her parents realize that she has a good memory. She remembers her favorite Taiwanese lyrics so clear that no one could compare with her. Amazing!
Sun, Yu-Yin recalled that when she was a child, her parents would take her back to her grandfather's house every holiday. Grandpa would ask her to sing karaoke and practice Taiwanese songs. Sun Yuyin always so happy!
It has been more than a year since her grandfather died. Sun, Yu-Yin often misses her grandfather and says to heaven, "Grandpa, I will take good care of your daughter", which makes Sun, Yu-Yin's parents feel both sad and comforted. The whole family miss the time when grandpa and grandchildren sang together!
Savior of DS angel
When Sun, Yu-Yin became a grade 5 student in primary school, she learned the ocarina with Mr. Lin Qitong, the Savior of her. At the beginning, when her happy learning style became more and more mature, Mr. Lin encouraged Sun, Yu-Yin to follow the elders students to apply for the street artist license. Fortunately, she got it immediately in Hualien County at one time. She play the song, hand of mother of Zan, Ya-Wen, her favorite Taiwanese singer at that time. On the stage, she is always at ease and has been admitted to six street artist licenses in six counties and cities with her true skills.
Sun Yuyin is now very lucky to be a core member of DS Orchestra led by Mr. Lin Qitong. The orchestra also has many opportunities for free performances. Therefore, the orchestra has group practice every Monday and African drum class on Tuesday. Every Saturday is the time for her interests class. She plays digital pipes at Mr. Lin Qitong's house in the morning and dances in the afternoon, and then to the static painting class, she has happily accepted and insisted on such schedule for several years. She won't be tired and is even happier to be able to perform on public welfare charity stage!
Sometimes Sun, Yu-Yin encounters setbacks in her study, her parents often too stressful about this or lose patience so that they tell her to forget it. Later, Sun, Yu-Yin would comfort them in turn: "Mom, Dad, I can do it, I will work hard, I will overcome it, and I can continue to learn from the teacher." This often makes her parents felt very ashamed and asked themselves why they could no be more patient.
Slowly, Sun, Yu-Yin's parents honed their own mind and found themselves different when they accompanied her to practice musical instruments.
They have always been touched by all the performances of DS children including Sun, Yu-Yin. Sun, Yu-Yin becomes more confident and loving, she often said to her mother, "My favorite person is my mother, and you are my darling."
Sun, Yu-Yin also said recently that "the teacher is her valuable person". Sun, Yu-Yin's mother jokingly said to her, "Oh... does that means a very expensive person?" Sun, Yu-Yin laughed: "Mom, don't be funny! Of course, it's a person who is nice and important to me."
Sun, Yu-Yin's current performance often makes they forget all the hard work and the tension of traveling. Sun, Yu-Yin's current stable mind and all achievements fill they heart with gratitude. They are grateful for the great love of teachers, the company of family members and the help of all supporters. It is hoped that Sun, Yu-Yin will spread more hope like an angel in the future with more smiles!
