Marrying Photography
A "marriage" to the photography profession, a heroine who changes the world through photography – she is Ami Vitale.
For over two decades, day in and day out, she has picked up her camera and ventured into more than a hundred countries. Through a lifelong passion for photography, she has rescued endangered animals from the brink of extinction and documented humanity's resilience in the face of challenges, capturing hope amid adversity.
Ami Vitale is currently a National Geographic photographer, writer, explorer, and filmmaker. She resides in Montana and is actively involved in advocating for endangered species across Europe, America, and Asia. She is also a frequent winner of the World Press Photo awards.
She obtained dual degrees in International Relations and Journalism from the University of North Carolina in 1993 and later earned a degree in Journalism and Film Production from the University of Miami in 2010.
Ami Vitale's journey spans from desolate war zones to almost extinct animals. With compassion and curiosity, she seeks to trigger awareness about endangered environments and wildlife stories to a wider audience. Through her efforts, she aims to make a difference before it's too late.
Ami Vitale's journey of using photography to change the world has led her to track rhinos, touch elephants, traverse trenches, lie amidst ruins, and even don a panda disguise. Her dedication to photography is driven by the realization that it can indeed transform the world. Through her lens, she has come to understand that once animals disappear, humanity could also vanish.
Because whether it's war, poverty, or health, nature has an impact on all living things. The destinies of humans and animals are intricately connected.
Every year on "International Endangered Species Day," she shares tender shots like "Young Giraffe Orphan Twiga Stretching for a Kiss with Wildlife Keeper Lekupinai," touching the hearts of hundreds of millions of people around the world and garnering countless likes.
To date, Ami Vitale's captured images have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. Her work has been featured in international magazines including National Geographic, Adventure, Geo, Newsweek, Time, and Smithsonian, among others.
Ami Vitale's photographic works have also become a regular presence in international awards, including five World Press Photo awards (WPP), the Lowell Thomas Award for Travel Journalism in the field of travel journalism, the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding Reporting, the Lucie Awards.
Therefore, Ami Vitale has courageously used her love for photography, persisting for over 20 years. She safeguards endangered animals through her lens, capturing the essence of "life with love, animals priceless." She takes pride in being a war correspondent and uses photography to unveil the crisis awareness surrounding the environment and nature. In addition to her role as a National Geographic photographer, she serves on the advisory committee of the Alexia Foundation and is a member of Ripple Effect Images. With these multiple roles, she has assisted countless women, children, and even animal sanctuaries in developing countries by raising funds. She has become globally recognized as a "humanitarian photography heroine" in the photography field. And she is worthy of being  a “ American life-saving photographer."
